MEET MAMA TARA

The heart behind Nine Acre Bostons

Hi, I’m Tara, although around here, Mama Tara seems to have stuck.

I’m a Wife, Mama, Nonna, Nurse, Animal lover, and the person behind Nine Acre Boston Terriers. I’m also the one behind the camera, the puppy updates, the late-night whelping box checks, and probably more conversations with Boston Terriers than I should admit.

HOW NINE ACRES BEGAN

From City Girl to Country Life

I was born and raised in the Greater New Orleans area, so country living definitely wasn’t always part of the plan.

My love for Boston Terriers actually began long before Nine Acres. When Dwight—better known around here as Papa—and I met, he had Mia. He had Bostons before her, but Mia was my introduction to the breed. Somewhere along the way, I fell in love with her... and with him.

Maximus eventually joined our family, and when we traded city life for nine acres in Carriere, Mississippi, Mia and Max came right along with us. We went from city life to country life, and Nine Acres became home, for our family, our animals, and eventually the breeding program that would carry its name.

Mia passed away in 2022, but she'll always be an important part of this story. She was the little girl who introduced me to the breed that would become such a huge part of my life.

Over time, my love for Bostons grew into a passion for raising them intentionally in our home and as part of our family, with health, temperament, socialization, and transparency at the heart of everything I do.

Nine Acre Boston Terriers didn't begin because I decided one day that I wanted to become a breeder.

It grew naturally from a love for the breed that was already here.

And really, it all started with Papa and a little Boston named Mia.

Today, Nine Acres is home to our family, our animals, and a whole lot of Boston Terrier personality. What started as a move from city life to nine acres in the country became a lifestyle I never knew I needed.

Our Bostons live in our home and as part of our family. They’re on the couch, under the blankets, following us from room to room, spending time with the grandbabies, and very much involved in everyday life around here.

That same home is where my littles begin their lives. From the whelping box forward, I’m hands-on with them every day, watching them grow, learning their personalities, introducing new experiences, and preparing them for the families who will eventually love them as much as I do.

Nine Acres may be the name of the place, but the heart of it has always been home and family.
